Backwards Friendships

I was watching this interview that this girl did at the NKOTB Burbank Best Buy signing for KTLA. She said that New Kids on the Block are "not a joke." She said "They've help friendships form, kept them together, kept families together..." I was pondering about that for awhile and I wondered why it is that Blockheads so easily form friendships based on a band.

If you think about strangers coming together in one room, what they tend to do to get to know each other is that they talk about different subjects in order to find something in common with one another. Once you find that common ground, you can elaborate, and build your friendship from that point on. As you go along, you find more and more things about each other and voila, a friendship is born.

With Blockheads, it's different. With Blockheads, it's instant. You already know the common ground. You already have something to talk about. You already have a friendship that you can build upon. It doesn't need to be sought out. I guess that's why whenever there are fan meets, it's so easy to talk to each other because you already have that topic to talk about. It's like you're already friends but you just haven't seen each other in awhile and you catch up.

I met up with some Blockheads last night to watch Righteous Kill to support Donnie. I've met up with these people 2 or 3 times and even though we've only known each for a quick moment, it feels like forever. I guess that is one thing that NKOTB has given us: the ability to make friends without the burden of finding out whether we fit as friends. Kinda backwards, huh? Thank you so much.

This is a moment captured last night by one of my Blockhead friends, Ana.
