Let me tell you a story about 5 guys

On my drive home yesterday, I was awakened (yes, I almost fell asleep driving on the I-5 North) by a Twitter text message that said that the Today Show performance for Labor Day was cancelled. I was in disbelief. I thought about all those people who had been waiting out there since Thursday to see the guys and now, their efforts have been all for nought. It turns out that the Today Show had to cancel due to the hurricane. The Today Show would be covering the news of Hurricane Gustav instead. My thoughts & prayers are with those people who are affected by the hurricane but they were also with the NKOTB fans who were stranded in New York with no place to go.

My first thought about this situation and how NKOTB was going to handle it was that they were probably going to go down there once they heard of the cancellation. I worried and cried for the fans. As each twitter would come, I would hear about everything that was going down. The security told the fans they had 30 min to leave. But to where? The fans told security that the New Kids were probably going to come down there so they couldn't leave because then, they wouldn't know where to fiund the fans.

Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "Who in their right mind would count on a celebrity to come down and console them in this situation just because they're fans of theirs?" Yah, we fans tend to believe that NKOTB really loves us while the rest of the world tend to believe that we're delusional for believing that. Maybe we are and maybe we aren't.

Yes, we know we won't all marry them and live happily ever after. Yes, we know we won't get in any lines for any one night stands. Yes, we know they're not going to call us everyday on the phone as if we're so family. But damn, this band has been nothing but loving & devoted to us so why WOULDN'T we believe that they would come through? Why wouldn't we keep the faith that we could count on them? Why wouldn't we believe in their generosity?

So what happened?

The fans argued with the Today Show producer that they believed the guys would come down to see them so they were not going to move. The producer eventually talked to the New Kids over the phone an hour later and got confirmation that they indeed were coming straight from the airport to see them. They didn't even want to go to any hotel first or anything. Just straight to the fans, like a loving husband rushes straight to his helpless wife. This little conversation seemed to have floored the producer because she honestly did not think the New Kids would come. And the New Kids proved them wrong, as they always do. Katie, a girl who was there, said that the Today Show producer told the New Kids she didn't believe the fans when they insisted they would show up but now she knows she was wrong because the fans knew an hour before she did that they really were coming. The New Kids' response? "They know us." The fans knew they wouldn't leave them. Joe, Danny, & Jon went straight to see the fans after landing in the airport and took pictures with everyone, signed autographs, and hugged them. Meeting them would mean everything to these fans and I'm sure they thought the world of them for coming down to see them in their time of need.

This. This story. This moment right here. This is the type of story that should run in the newspaper, the tabloids, the blogs, the journals, the articles, the radio, etc. Rather than the false trash that's going around, THIS is the side of the New Kids that no one but the loyal fans know about. THIS is the side of the New Kids that makes me proud to be a Blockhead. And THIS is the exact reason why I am online every night, fighting battles & raging war on anything disrespectful to the guys. They don't deserve to be trashed and I will let anyone who disrespects them know the truth. They've created an army with their love and I am more than happy to suit up for them.

"The Block" album just came out. Get it on iTunes. Get it on Amazon. Get it at Target. You won't regret it.
